The Vasilopita coin is a small good-luck coin placed inside the Greek New Year’s cake, known as the Vasilopita. This beautiful tradition is celebrated on New Year’s Day in honour of Saint Basil.
Before the cake is cut, a coin is hidden inside. Families gather, make a blessing, and cut a slice for each member. Whoever finds the coin in their slice is believed to receive good luck, blessings, and prosperity for the year ahead.
